Hispanic Heritage Month 2025 | Mes de la Herencia Hispana

Es el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, y hoy tiene un significado especial. Iniciamos un reconocimiento dedicado a todas las personas que se identifican como hispanas, latinas, latinx, chicanas, mexas y, como dice la canción, “Pachucos, cholos y chundos,” entre muchas más. Todos aquellos que llevan esta vibrante y profunda herencia comparten un legado que sigue dando forma a la identidad cultural de los Estados Unidos. Desde antes de la colonización hasta el presente, los pueblos de América Latina han contribuido a la creación y desarrollo de esta cultura.

Este mes marca un tiempo para reconocer, celebrar y mostrar la riqueza que aportamos: la música, el arte, el idioma, los sabores, las tradiciones y la defensa de nuestros derechos, que siguen dejando una huella imborrable en esta nación.

Levantamos la cabeza y abrimos el corazón para recibir palabras de gratitud. Al mismo tiempo, permanecemos firmes frente al dolor, el prejuicio y el odio que con demasiada frecuencia enfrentan nuestra existencia en nuestro hogar, los Estados Unidos de América.

Aquí en el Condado de Dubois, este mes nos recuerda la fuerza económica y el crecimiento que nuestra comunidad aporta, ya sea en oficinas o cocinas, en hogares o campos, cultivando los productos que nuestros antepasados dominaron hace siglos, construyendo infraestructuras duraderas o fortaleciendo sistemas que resaltan el valor de las habilidades globales en cada sector. Desde las aulas donde nuestras niñas, niños y jóvenes aprenden las virtudes de la humanidad, hasta cada rincón de nuestra comunidad, no existe espacio que no sea elevado por la presencia de los latinos.

Hoy oramos por protección, celebramos nuestra resiliencia y compartimos nuestro profundo orgullo de pertenecer. Invitamos a nuestras y nuestros vecinos a nuestra mesa para probar el chocolate y el maíz que llevan siglos de memoria, lucha y alegría. We begin a dedicated recognition of all who identify as Hispanic, Latino, Latinx, Chicano, Mexa, and as the song says“Pachucos, cholos y chundos,” among many others. All who carry this vibrant, soulful ancestry share in a legacy that continues to shape the cultural identity of the United States. From before colonization to the present day, people from Latin America have contributed to the creation and growth of this culture.

This month marks a time to acknowledge, celebrate, and showcase the richness we bring the music, art, language, flavors, traditions, and advocacy that leave a lasting mark on this nation.

We lift our heads high and open our hearts to receive words of gratitude. At the same time, we also stand strong against the pain, prejudice, and hate that too often confront our existence in our home, the United States of America.

Here in Dubois County, this month reminds us of the economic strength and growth our community contributes whether in offices or kitchens, homes or farmland, cultivating the crops our ancestors mastered centuries ago, building lasting infrastructure, or strengthening systems that highlight the value of global skills in every sector. From classrooms where our children and youth learn the virtues of humanity to every corner of our community, there is no space that is not uplifted by the presence of Latinos.
