Laura Pommier’s Latina Rhapsody

Pride is the feeling that overwhelms me when I see my culture represented. Pride in living in a community where multiculturalism is valued and reflected in the art that brings color and beauty to my surroundings. Art has the power to tell stories, and Laura captured ours in her Latina Rhapsody, a portrait bursting with color and life. She captured the essence of a strong and beautiful woman who stands firm in her worth and abilities. 

Latina was created with intention and admiration, carrying a message of empowerment, heritage, and resilience.

The inspiration for this piece was born as an initiative from Visit Dubois County, a shared vision between Laura and Whitney. Together, they explored various ideas and poses, ultimately choosing one that radiated confidence and vitality.

Laura’s artistic inspiration is deeply rooted in her diverse Irish, Scottish, and French ancestry. She has a deep appreciation for multiculturalism, drawing influence from her life experiences and the people who shape her identity, including her husband, son-in-law, grandchildren, and sister-in-law, whose diverse backgrounds enrich her perspective and creativity.

As a figurative artist, Laura finds beauty in people's stories and expressions, channeling their uniqueness into her work. Through Latina Rhapsody, she celebrates heritage, resilience, and self-determination, creating a visual anthem for all to admire. Orgullo es el sentimiento que me invade cuando veo mi cultura representada. Orgullo de vivir en una comunidad donde el multiculturalismo es valorado y reflejado en el arte que da color y belleza a mi entorno. El arte tiene el poder de contar historias, y Laura capturó la nuestra en su Rapsodia Latina, un retrato que explota en color y vida. Capturó la esencia de una mujer fuerte y hermosa, que se mantiene firme en su valor y habilidades.  Latina fue creada con intención y admiración, llevando consigo un mensaje de empoderamiento, herencia y resiliencia.

La inspiración para esta obra fue una visión compartida entre Laura y Whitney. Juntas exploraron diversas ideas y poses, eligiendo finalmente una que irradiaba confianza y vitalidad.

La inspiración artística de Laura está arraigada en su diversa ascendencia irlandesa, escocesa y francesa. Ella aprecia profundamente el multiculturalismo, tomando influencias de sus experiencias de vida y de las personas que forman parte de su identidad, incluyendo a su esposo, yerno, nietos y cuñada, cuyas variadas raíces enriquecen su perspectiva y creatividad. Como artista figurativa, Laura encuentra belleza en las historias y expresiones de las personas, canalizando su singularidad en su obra. A través de Rapsodia Latina, celebra la herencia, la resiliencia y la autodeterminación, creando un  himno visual para que todos lo admiren. Rapsodia Latina es un homenaje a todas las mujeres que se mantienen firmes en su identidad, rompiendo barreras e inspirando a las generaciones futuras.
